Baby Chimpanzee
1992
38 x 52 cm
(Chinese text) Chimp sits hunched forward, curious, examining me, while I
examine him... and thus we spent a happy day together.
We made may trips to the zoological gardens with teacher Cheng
Shan-Hsi.He taught us that we must sit and watch animals for a long time and
learn to understand their body language, before putting brush to paper. And so
it was that we spent the whole day watching these baby monkeys. They too however
were fascinated by what we were doing, and periodically we had to show them the
progress of their portraits, which they appeared to study with serious interest.
